Indigo, the microbiology brand of MetaSystems GmbH presents Metafer, a unique platform for automated scanning and imaging of microscopy samples. Metafer microbiology applications include automated reading of Gram stains and of tuberculosis sputum smears, as well as Direct Multiplex Imaging (DMI).

DMI combines novel multiplex hybridization technology with automatic assay reading to identify and differentiate clinically relevant microorganisms in 35 minutes directly from a variety of patient samples such as positive blood cultures and sputum.

The versatile and scalable Metafer system scans and archives up to 800 slides automatically in one run, enabling centralized data acquisition and decentralized analysis using local networks or a web-based interface. Technicians can therefore focus on result assessment and flexibly organize their work. Seamless integration into existing LIS improves workflows as procedures for sample processing and reading can be uploaded electronically. Documentation is facilitated because images and data can easily be stored with patient files.
